GAME INTRODUCTION
What to know before you play
Rainbow Six Siege is a 5v5 tactical shooter developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. Each round pits Attackers against Defenders around an objective: Defenders reinforce and reshape the site, while Attackers scout, breach, and use specialist gadgets to open a route. It launched December 1, 2015 and remains a live service on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Core loop
Before the firefight, Defenders place reinforcements, traps, and utility while Attackers use drones to identify the site and defensive setup. Once action begins, both teams trade information, clear gadgets, open walls or floors, and protect or contest the objective. Destruction means a room can be attacked through doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and floors rather than along one fixed lane.
Operators define each player's tools. A loadout combines weapons with a unique gadget built for breaching, denial, surveillance, protection, disruption, or support. The round-based structure rewards planning, map knowledge, sound cues, and coordinated utility use; reckless movement can remove a player from the rest of the round.
What makes it different
- Asymmetric attack and defense: the two sides have different preparation jobs, gadgets, and ways to control the objective.
- Destructible environments: teams can create sightlines and entrances or reinforce surfaces to deny them.
- Specialist Operators: team composition changes the information, protection, breach, and denial tools available in a round.
- High information value: cameras, drones, sound, pings, and teammate communication can decide a fight before anyone shoots.
Who it fits
Siege suits players who enjoy deliberate tactical PvP, learning maps and gadgets, communicating with a team, and improving through repeated rounds. It is less suitable for players who want constant respawns, forgiving run-and-gun combat, a primarily solo campaign, or a competitive game with little reliance on map knowledge.
Current season snapshot
Operation Split Fire released September 1, 2026. Noor, the Villa basement update, and the launch Operator and weapon adjustments are live now. The 3v3 Arcade playlist runs September 8–21, Wasteland Circuit runs September 23–October 12, and Legend Division is planned for mid-season; none of those three later additions had started as of September 2.

What is live and what comes later
Noor has five Horus Lance projectiles. Villa's Living Room/Library site has moved to the basement, while the garage is now an interior space. Those changes and the launch balance adjustments are part of the live September 1 release.
The limited 3v3 playlist opens September 8 with shorter preparation and Operator attrition. Wasteland Circuit follows on September 23. Legend Division is a separate solo queue with rank, reputation, account-security, and PC platform-security requirements, but Ubisoft gives only a mid-season opening window. The official sources do not establish live win rates, a strongest Noor loadout, or a best Villa setup.
