What changed from the announcement
Nintendo originally gave the game a broad 2026 window. The current US listing now names November 5, 2026, so older pages that say the date is unknown are out of date.
Nintendo's US news page also confirms the physical release and first-print foil packaging. This is packaging for the game, not a separate Collector's Edition with announced collectibles.
The 40th Anniversary Edition Switch 2 hardware launches October 29 for $499.99. That does not automatically make it a software bundle. Before ordering, check the live Nintendo purchase panel for exact contents; Nintendo's announcement lists the hardware and $59.99 game separately.
How to avoid a bad preorder listing
Use three checks before paying a retailer:
- Match the product to the November 5, 2026 Switch 2 release, not the Nintendo 64 subscription version.
- Confirm whether the listing is game software, themed hardware, or both.
- Compare its price and contents with Nintendo's live US product page; do not treat an unverified retailer date or price as official.
Nintendo currently identifies the software as a Switch 2 product and estimates a 27 GB download. If a listing claims Switch 1 compatibility, Master Quest, new dungeons, bundled software, or an upgrade entitlement, require a current Nintendo source before relying on it.
For the confirmed feature list, read the gameplay and remake changes. For compatibility, see Switch 2 exclusivity and Nintendo Classics access.
